
Not so much a scam but scare tactics via e-mail!
I have recently received some well meaning forwardings to my in-box, mostly entitled Swine Flu. The text goes on to give advice about not visiting your GP or a hopsital if you have any 'flu like symptoms, but to stay indoors and phone for a doctor to visit you. The suggestion is that if you have 'flu like symptoms then you have Swine Flu.
These e-mails do more to hurt than to help. Yes 'flu like symptoms could be a sign of Swine Flu BUT according to the NHS website Symptoms of swine flu page the typical symptoms are:
Other symptoms are, as with any other 'flu; diarrhoea or stomach upset, headache, tiredness, chills, aching muscles, limb or joint pain, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing and loss of appetite.
Most people who have contracted Swine Flu recover within a week or so and do not suffer complications, even without being given the antiviral medication that is available. As for the e-mails? If it has been sent to you by the company you work for (not "forwarded" by a "well meaning" office colleague but actually sent to you by someone in authority) then follow any instruction / advice given. If it arrives by any other means (multiple "forwardings" etc.) then delete it. Most of all, don't worry yourself sick over a lone sneeze!
