What is Grouply?
Grouply allows you to get all of your Yahoo! group updates in a single email. It consolidates all your group information on a single website and reduces the size of ‘digest’ emails, making them easier and faster to read. It allows for cross-group calendaring; tagged searches; dynamic user profiles; and ‘what’s popular’ and ‘who’s active’ functions to keep tabs on hot topics and prolific members of your network.
You are a member of a lot of groups and this sounds good? Read on!
In order for the service to work, you have to give them your Yahoo! ID and password.
Now call me a cynic but passwords are there for protection. If you give it to someone else, even if they state that it will be kept safe, you have just opened yourself to abuse!
Consider what information is controlled by your Yahoo! credentials:
If you still think it's a good idea for a stranger to have access to all this information about YOU then carry on and sign up.
Oh and by the way, if you do sign up to Grouply don't tick the box, or whatever, that says "contact every member of all the e-groups you subscribe to to invite them to join" (it may not say exactly this but it's what it means). It really annoys the Yahoo! group members and could result in your membership to a (or many) groups being withdrawn plus emails from people who you don't know telling you where to go! (I received one such email from a G8 called Nigel. I don't know him and he has since apologised, through the group we both frequent, to everybody for the hassle).
