Parcel Delivery Scam II.

There you are, doing whatever you're doing at the time, and your mobile phone receives a text message (there are several numbers used for sending the text, maybe same scam by different people) it says:

!!URGENT!! Large Parcel Awaiting Delivery Please Call Now on (number varies) For Delivery Tomorrow International Parcel Deliveries

Well let's look at this in a relaxed, non !!URGENT!! way shall we?

When I send a parcel I put the address it has to go to, not a mobile phone number.

Some companies, when you order items, do ask for a contact phone number. They also tell you what company is delivering the parcel and, in my experience, a person from the delivery firm will phone you but only if there is a problem (they called to attempt delivery, no one in, card left, no contact after a couple of days). Note: I said phone, not text!

So if you get a text message similar to the one above: Ask yourself,

  1. Am I expecting a parcel from overseas?
  2. Did the sender have my mobile phone number?
  3. Is the contact number for me to call a UK, non Premium, Land Line number?

If the answer to all 3 questions is yes then possibly it is genuine, but as I said earlier, they will usually phone you (if they have your number) to speak to you, not text and ask you to call (which is similar to leaving you a card and asking you to contact them)!
