So you're sitting there looking at one of the pages in this section thinking "I know how to do that on Windows ME but how do I add screen shots?"
For most versions of Windows it's quite easy, although some copy the whole screen while other versions just copy the active window:
- Click on the window you wish to have an image of, then move the cursor away from that window.
- Press the Print Screen (or Prt Scr) key on your keyboard while pressing the Alt key (Some Laptops require the FN key to be pressed as well). This will copy the whole screen (or active window, depending on version) to the clipboard.
(Update 16 Nov 08: On versions that copy the active window; if you press Ctrl instead of Alt then the whole screen is copied).
- Open your favourite drawing prog (or Paint, Paintbrush etc. and select Edit on the Menu Bar then select Paste from the drop down menu. Some versions will inform you if the image to be pasted is larger than the current area, if this happens just click OK or whatever to resize the current area and paste the image.
- If you wish to highlight a particular part you can do this now, also if the image is the whole screen you could crop just the relevant window, but don't worry if you're not sure how to do this and you're sending it to me, I'll edit it as required.
- Now save the image (File / Save or Save As…), choose a location, give a meaningful name, select file type (if possible, earlier versions of Windows Paint are BMP only) and click OK.
Now you can send me that email explaining how to do whatever it is in Windows ME, 2000 etc., attaching the screen shot(s) for illustration.
