Some Interesting News Items.

A busy week at the news desk! 3 items arrived at my inbox.

It has come to my attention that Ofcom are finally taking an interest in Amateur Radio. Two press releases dated Friday 28 March have been passed on to me and I have posted them for your perusal:

The first starts "We (Ofcom) are invesigating means of recouping revenue lost since the introduction of the lifetime Amateur Radio Licence. See the whole document HERE.

The RSGB are reported to be encouraging all Radio Amateurs to reject the introduction of what they (the RSGB) are calling the Tx Tax.

The second deals with breaches of any transmitting licence terms and conditions, and is viewable HERE.

Also a new Operation Mode has been announced:

In a attempt to reduce the bandwidth of some operating modes - especially during contests - a new operating mode is announced, SCCW or 'Suppressed Carrier CW".

It will be simmilar to SSB where supressing the carrier reduces the required bandwith thus allowing more contacts to be made in the available allocation.

"The details have yet to be finalisied but it is looking favourable to be launched in around a years time," said the spokesperson for Diputs Comms, "We have our top scientists working on it in our Dublin branch." (Diputs = Stupid reversed! and Dublin branch, oh come on, really!)

Thanks go to Wayne, UDK for the "Tx Tax" and "SCCW". "Licence breaches" was all my own work! Brian.
