Make a Yaesu cloning cable.
By Brian, MW0GKX.

For Yaesu Mic Wiring see: Yaesu Mic Wiring page.

Some Yaesu transceivers can use a cloning cable to copy the memory settings etc from one set to another. Look below and see if yours is listed (if it's not and you have the handbook that tells you about the cloning feature, let me know so I can add it).

All information is from radio handbooks that show the connections, please don't complain if it doesn't work as I have not personally tested them.

All socket views are looking at the radio.

FT-10, FT-40, FT-50, FT-60.
VX-1, VX-2, VX-3, VX-5, VX-6, VX-7, VX-10, VX-14, VX-110, VX-120, VX-127, VX-130, VX-131, VX-132, VX-150, VX-170, VX-177.

Plug is 3.5mm 4 pole type.

NOTE: There are 3 types of this plug used by Yaesu on the various models:

  1. With a screw thread to lock it to the radio.
  2. A plug with a thumbscrew strain relief.
  3. Just a "normal" plug.
The "normal" plug will fit the socket with the strain relief.
I have been told that a "normal" plug will fit in the screwed type socket if the body of the plug is small enough to fit in the recess, otherwise the pinout is the same.
The screw type will not fit the non screwed sockets.

Also fits some Alinco radios (which use the screw type plug).

See: Mic Wiring Pin Outs, FT-10... page for full details of this connection.

FT-11, FT-51:

See the Home build an OPC-474 cable page as the Icom OPC-474 and this Yaesu lead are the same.

Also fits some Alinco radios.

FT-23, FT-23 MkII:

See: FT-23R MkII Clone info for useage instruction (same for non MkII version).

FT-26, FT-76, FT-411, FT-411 MkII, FT-911:

Plug is 2.5mm stereo jack type using the Mic socket. Connect ring to ring and sleeve to sleeve (tip to tip as well would be OK).

Also fits some Alinco radios.

FT-90, FT-2600:

Plug is 6 pin modular type (using the Mic socket). Connect pin 3 to pin 3 and pin 5 to pin 5.

See: Mic Wiring Pin Outs, FT-90... page for full details of this connection.

FT-817, FT-857, FT-897:

Plug is 8 pin mini din type.
On FT-817 use ACC socket.
On FT-857 & FT-897 use CAT/LINEAR socket.

FT-847:

Plug is 9 pin D type (PC serial). The manual says to use a null modem cable but most of the pins are not connected in the radio.

FT-1500, FT-1802, FT-2800:

Plug is 6 pin modular type (using the Mic socket). Connect pin 1 to pin 1 and pin 3 to pin 3.

See: Mic Wiring Pin Outs, FT-1500... page for full details of this connection.

FT-2400, FT-2500:

Plug is 8 pin modular type (using the Mic socket). Connect pin 4 to pin 4 and pin 6 to pin 6.

See: Mic Wiring Pin Outs, FT-2400... page for full details of this connection.

FT-7100, FT-7800, FT-8000, FT-8800, FT-8900:

Plug is 6 pin mini din type using the DATA socket.
